Where’s the “WOW” factor?
Unfortunately, the usual sequence in any type of remodeling – be it a kitchen, bath, screened porch, room addition, etc. – is completely backward! And your project will suffer as a result. Let me explain: most designers begin with a major element and develop the plan from there. In a kitchen remodel, for instance, the first and supposedly most important element, will be the cabinet selection. You will be shown a variety of door styles, different wood species, color choices, countertop selection, and appliance placement. At the conclusion of this process, attention turns to all the other pieces needed to complete the job. That includes paint colors, flooring and light fixtures, plus a host of other decisions needed to arrive at the finished project.
This all sounds completely logical, but it is also the exact reverse sequence needed to get phenomenal results. How can you make decisions on all the pieces of the puzzle if you don’t have a grand, overall vision of how the result will be totally perfect for you? And the biggest issue of all is “Where’s the “WOW” factor? This might be subtle! It could be bold! But to arrive with a finished project that transcends the ordinary and makes people swoon over an extraordinary remodeling takes the work of an artist.
